Brandon Gill New brings 25 years of investment experience from AIMCo and Ontario Teachers’ to the newly created role
RBC Global Asset Management (GAM) has appointed Brandon Gill New as its new global head of private markets, succeeding Michael Kitt, who transitioned to vice chair with RBC GAM late last year.
Gill New, who's based in Toronto and reports to Stu Kedwell, global chief investment officer of RBC GAM, took up her new position on October 13, 2026.
The appointment comes as RBC GAM pushes to expand a private markets business that has grown to more than $15 billion in client investments since formally launching in 2019. The firm has set its sights on reaching $1.1 trillion in assets under management by 2029, with private markets identified as a key contributor to that target.
From pension funds to private markets
Gill New arrives with more than 25 years of global investment experience spanning both public and private asset classes. Most recently, she served as managing director and head of external partnerships, public equities at Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo), one of Canada’s largest pension fund managers. Before that, she held increasingly senior roles at OPTrust and the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board (Ontario Teachers').
"I’m honoured to join RBC Global Asset Management at such a pivotal moment for its private markets business," Gill New said in a statement in the firm's release. "Having spent my career investing across public and private asset classes, I’ve seen firsthand how private markets can enhance portfolio diversification and resilience, while delivering long-term value for investors. I look forward to working with the team to expand our offerings and deliver innovative solutions to both institutional and retail clients."
Alternatives as a growth engine
RBC GAM’s private markets platform currently spans Canadian real estate, global infrastructure and Canadian commercial mortgages. Under Gill New’s leadership, the firm aims to expand those offerings by asset class and geography, serving both institutional and retail clients.
Kedwell framed the hire as central to the firm’s next phase of growth.
"As we enter the next phase of growth at RBC Global Asset Management, we are fortunate to have Brandon leading our private markets efforts," Kedwell added. "Her deep investment expertise, global experience and strong track record position her well to deliver on our objectives as we expand our private markets investment solutions into new regions, asset classes and investors."
